The first Minister to be appointed with Responsibility for Volunteer
Services and in fact, the State Government’s policy “Valuing
Volunteers” is a first in this State’s history. Minister McHale also
chairs the Cabinet Standing Committee on Social Policy comprised of
the Ministers for Health, Education, Housing and Police. Minister
McHale is also an active spokesperson on Art, Heritage and Health.
Minister McHale will be presenting a paper on The Implementation of
an Active Ageing Strategy in Western Australia which is about the
Western Australian Government’s programmes for ageing and older
people. The Minister will also chair a panel on Ageing policies
and practices in Western Australia: Are they sustainable? This
panel discusses Western Australia’s response to its ageing
population through an Active Ageing Taskforce.

The IFA Global Conference is an important biennial gathering of
practitioners, programme planners and policy makers in the field of
ageing from all over the world. It is a great honour and privilege
for Singapore to host this event, the 7th in the series and the
first to be held in Southeast Asia. This would be an opportune
occasion for Singapore to showcase its achievements in the care of
older people and a wonderful opportunity to learn from the experts
and experiences elsewhere.
I hope that all Singaporeans will join SAGE in making the 7th Global
Conference a success.
